We went to Olive Garden for dinner last night, all four of us.
Before tip: $72.
How much do we average at the grocery store per week: $65.
I don't think we'll go back to the Olive Garden for a long, long time.

On the other end of the spectrum, Dagmar and I stopped in at a little coffee shop in downtown Ponca, NE yesterday. We didn't get full-blown meals or anything, but for a nice lunch (very tasty indeed!) and fancy iced coffee drinks we paid ten bucks for the two of us.
Olive Garden is good, but gosh...
When we go out on "fancy dates" we'll sometimes go to Minerva's. We'll order drinks, house salad, and then we'll split a dessert. No entree. They're all too expensive, and, to be honest, after a drink and a salad we quite simply can't eat much more -- the servings these days are way too big. So that cuts our bill down from $40 or $50 to $15 or $20, and we still get to "eat fancy."
When Chad and I eat out, it's $10 at Subway, $15 for take-home Chinese (with leftovers for the next day), or $40 for sushi on a wild splurge.
Chad thought it'd be fun to go to dinner with the kids. I really had to hold myself back when Justin ordered an $11 pizza and a $6 bowl of ice cream, both of which he only ate just more than half. Torrey had chicken parmesan, didn't eat the pasta part, and also had a $6 slice of something or other. Soda cost $2.95 each, a total rip-off.
We're not going out for a while just to try to "equalize" this insane dinner out (maybe we'll spend the gas to go to the Democrat's Labor Day picnic for some free lunch).
Just another reminder that though the cost of everything is skyrocketing, our paychecks aren't.
When my boss was working on the budget, putting in our 3% cost-of-living increase, I showed her that the past 2-3 years, cost-of-living/inflation has exceeded 4.5% for our area. She's too frugal, though, and didn't want to scare our board of directors, so no raises. (I won't mention... ok, I am... that 3% for her is $2000, but for me it's a hair over $800). It's a good thing I like my job.
